INLAND LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB
Club History
Our First President
The Inland Lakes Snowmobile Club was founded in 1989. The first meeting was held at Karr's Saloon (The Old Brown Trout now Michael's Tavern & Steakhouse). The goal of the group was to promote snowmobiling in the Indian River Area. They planned to purchase a groomer and help the DNR brush trails. When they did not receive community support to get into grooming they decided to become a "fun" group. This evolved into snowmobile trips on all trails in the upper and northern lower peninsula, several trips to Canada and trips out west to ride in the mountains. Summer and fall picnics, Christmas and Spring Banquets, bowling parties and hayrides were some of the social events the club sponsored. The club also served as a community service organization by doing highway cleanups, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, helping with food bank at Christmas time, participating in the 4th of July parade and other community events and activities.
In 2003 the Indian River Grooming Club was formed. Our club has worked closely with the grooming club by brushing and signing the Indian River trails and has been a major contributor of money to help finance the grooming operation. The 65 families that are club members in 2014 continue to strive to follow our mission statement.
